UNL 2011 Homecoming: Delta Eta Alumni Celebration, noon, Saturday Oct 8th, 4pm - Kickoff, Chapter House

BIG FALL FOR DELTA ETA

It was yet another great Delta Eta Open at Tiburon Golf Club last Friday. But this year, it was a team of active Delta Etas that took home the glory. Just to be fair, Brother Rob Wilson did not field a team this year, so The Legend lives on... The Huskers borrowed some of that Delta Eta momentum to handily work over the (Ant)Hilltoppers. Some nice work back at the QB spot. How about Nebraska versus Boisie State for all the marbles this year? Gravity might reverse, but it would be a great exit from the Big XII and maybe the end of the BCS

We still have some great Fall events coming your way:

Friday, September 24th: NUers of the 1970's Party (Homecoming Weekend) hosted by Brother John A. Colborn, Delta Eta 1112. Send a note to info@sigmanuunl.org for more info, but it looks like Brother Colborn and collaborators have confirmed attendance northward of 60 Brothers. So if you were around Delta Eta between the summer of love and the decade of decadence, you're going to want to make it back for this one! And it's Homecoming week, so there will be plenty of UNL events for the whole family.

Saturday, September 25th: Homecoming Alumni Celebration at Chapter House (pre-game unless it's an 11:30a kickoff, otherwise post-game) - food, libations, scholarship presentation. A perennial feature at Delta Eta and always a great time at the Chapter and on campus.

Friday, October 29th, 50th Reunion for Class of 1960-era (pledge years 1956-1964) Banquet at Embassy Suites (Mizzou Game weekend) hosted by Brother Bill Harris, Delta Eta 865 (email info@sigamnuunl.org or call 402.416.6108 for more info including Delta Eta room block at Embassy Suites). It will be here before you know it! Make your plans now to celebrate 50 years since the infamous Tri-Party that almost closed the doors at Delta Eta. But as they say, that which does not kill me...

Saturday, October 30th, 50th Reunion for Class of 1960-era Pre- & post-game activities TBA

Big XII and BCS Championship activities TBA!

50th Reunion for Classes of 1960 Era

The weekend of October 30, the Delta Eta Chapter is hosting a 50th reunion for classes of the 1960 era (pledge years 1956 - 1964). 1960 was a critical year in the history of the Delta Eta Chapter, and we are celebrating it with a grand reunion over the weekend of the Mizzou Game on October 30th.

The highlight of the weekend (aside from devastating the Tigers for the last time in conference play) will be an evening banquet at the downtown Embassy Suites hotel. Brother Bill Harris has arranged for a block of rooms and a discounted rate at the Embassy Suites for both Friday and Saturday night. Lodging will be tough this football season, and there will be several Delta Eta activities at the hotel, so act fast and make your reservations and travel plans now!

Formal invitations will be sent next week when online registration will also be enabled on our homepage.

Centennial Celebration Success...

What can I say; if you missed it, you missed it. If you were there, you've got stories. Dozens of Brothers, family and friends of the Delta Eta Chapter came back to Lincoln for a weekend filled with friends, war stories, football, and great times in general.

It was a windy start, but we had a great turnout for golf at Wilderness Ridge on Friday afternoon, but Brothers Matt Atkinson, DH 1695, Jeff Perdue, DH 1684, John Campbell, DH 1681 and Matt Molettiere, DH 1679 brought home the victory and the glory of the centennial golf scramble.

After golf, Brothers and their families came to the Chapter House for an open house featuring displays of alumni pictures and memorabilia. It was the first time that many Brothers had been in the Chapter House for a decade or more, and nobody was short on stories about their time in the House. It was great to see Brothers of all ages share memories and in some cases reconnect with old friends. After the open house several groups headed downtown to some of their old haunts.

Saturday started out with the 1st Annual Active vs. Alumni flag football game. The actives edged out the alumni squad 20-23 in a hard fought battle on the gridiron. Brother Dan Okelberry DH 1538 designed and printed some great centennial jerseys for the game. No serious injuries were logged, just a few sore old guys...

After the game we once again descended upon the Chapter House for the annual Red-White Game pre-gamer. The guys in the guys in the house put on a nice BBQ and the Alumni Chapter with the assistance of Brother Ken Meier DH 980, and Meier's Cork and Bottle provided some motivation pre-game beverages. It was a close call, but "Best Hat" was awarded to Brother Chris Thelen DH 1206.

Alumni, family and friends then went to Memorial Stadium to take in the game in the Delta Eta alumni block.

After the second, slightly better-attended football game of the day, alumni and their guest headed to the Centennial Banquet at the downtown Embassy Suites. Highlights of the evening included a keynote by Regent Joe Gilman, scholarship awards to two current actives, and the awarding of the second-ever Delta Eta Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award to Brother David L. Albers DH 1277.

Thank you all who attended! It was indeed a great celebration of our Delta Eta Chapter.
